I started the diet on Memorial Day and am finally ready to have my first Consolidation celebration meal in time for Thanksgiving. I was never a heavy person until my late 30’s, and then for the past 7 years I just kept gaining weight. I tried Weight Watchers as well as just tracking and counting every calorie, starving myself and making no progress. My husband’s sweet tooth, weekly pizza and my lack of will power were my downfall, but once I discovered the Dukan Diet, I was determined to give it a go. It sounded doable, although I had always been wary of fad diets. I had watched a documentary called « Fat, Sick and Almost Dead’. So much of it made sense regarding protein, carbs, wheat and sugar, and the Dukan Diet seemed to fit into that logic.

I bought and read the book thoroughly in order to prepare myself, and allowed myself a few final indulgences, rather than going cold turkey. I am so happy with my new self. I was in denial for a long time that I was as heavy as I was, and getting bigger, but going from a size 12/14 to a 4 has absolutely amazed me and now I love to shop again. I can’t imagine where I would be now if I had not given this diet a chance. I am forever indebted to Dr. Dukan, and will spread the word. If ever a West Coast headquarters is planned, consider Portland, and I’ll be the first one on board.

My favorite support Dukan food: Boiled Shrimp
My Dukan treat: Dukan chocolate cheesecakes, and my evening FF greek yogurt with oat bran, stevia and vanilla. For me it’s like having a bowl of ice cream every night.
My favorite form of exercise: Walking/Hiking. We have amazing trails in this part of the country, and all so close to home.
The nicest compliment I’ve been paid: Just the way my husband looks at me every day, and when he curls up next to me and says, « I can feel your ribs ».
What keeps me going: I just feel great, and I like the structure I have adopted. I am prepared to continue for the rest of my life.
The advice I’d give to other « Dukanians »: I started by creating a list of the allowable foods that i liked and knew I would eat and then found recipes that worked for me. Be creative with your recipes and don’t give up when you stall. It is not the end.
