I never had to worry about weight when I was young – ate whatever I wanted & never gained an ounce. Then I got married & had kids. Needless to say, in the mid 80’s no one told us to walk while pregnant nor any other exercise. I gained with my 1st child, never took it off, & then gained more with my 2nc child.
I tried everything over the next 24 years from Weight Watchers to Jenny Craig to Weight Watchers to the cabbage soup diet to Weight Watchers to HCG drops. I couldn’t keep it up with all of the counting points, weighing & measuring that had to be done. My lovely husband never said a word to me about my weight & I was in a size 18 to 20 at my largest.
I was on the HCG drops for about 2 months, March to May of 2011. I began to get heart burn &, quite frankly, burned out on the tiny amounts of very limited food. I chose to go off of those & within a couple of days a friend told me about DD. I bought the book that day, read it the next, went on the website to put in all of my info & began. I did check with my doctor about this plan. He was skeptical at 1st thinking that DD would suggest I lose to about 120. When I told him no, my TW is 155, he was thrilled & told me to go for it. My DD experience was nothing but extraordinary. I stuck to it very strictly even through 3 different stagnation times. The 1st was for a few days, the 2nd about a week & a half, & the 3rd lasted an entire month. However, I was determined & I found the DD way of eating very easy for me.
I was scheduled to reach TW around Thanksgiving of that year. I hit my TW of 155 on November 17, 2011. I went right into consolidation with Thanksgiving being my very 1st Celebration Meal. I was on the 1st part of this phase for about 6 months before moving to the 2nd part.
Since losing the weight, I have been taken off of both High Blood Preassure meds & cholestorole meds. I tarted off walking the required 20 minutes a day on the treadmill. Then I ventured outside. I now continue to walk 4 – 5 days a week in a place here called Sabino Canyon. I walk for 2 hours, 7.4 miles round trip. On top of that, I do pilates 1 day a week & work out for an hour with a personal trainer 1 day a week. Who would have thought that I would ever be into exercise!
DD had changed my life. I am more confident, have fun shopping for clothes now, & know that my health is much better than ever before.
I am now 55 years old & ready for the rest of my life! Thank you Dr. Dukan!!!
My favorite support Dukan food: I love protein, so that’s good. Also, the Ezekiel bread.
My Dukan treat: coffee custard – it’s in the cookbook.
My favorite form of exercise: Walking & hiking
The nicest compliment I’ve been paid: Someone thought I was in my 30’s. I went to Hawaii in January of 2012, meeting my family in LA to go on the same plane with them. As each of my siblings & their spouses saw me for the 1st time, their jaws literally dropped. Then, when out at the pool one day, my Mom actually told me I have a cute figure!
What keeps me going: Looking at myself in the mirror + how I feel.
The advice I’d give to other « Dukanians »: Keep at it no matter what. Even when you stagnate, which you will, don’t give in to temptations & keep going. As many say, if I can do it…
