Andy, United States, lost 40 lbs

My wife and I started the Dukan Diet in early September this year at the suggestion of a close friend who had had great success with it. We have both been on diets before and my wife on Weight Watchers most recently, but never really on the same diet and accountable to each other. She had even considered surgery until we became Dukanians and we are so happy not to have to go down that path. In the 100+ days we’ve been on this diet she has lost 30 pounds and I’ve lost 40 pounds and while she has a ways to go to reach her target, I am only 4 pounds away with both of us in the cruising phase now. I plan to stay on this phase for a bit longer with my wife as we’ve been great partners in this venture by supporting each other every day in our weigh-ins, meal selection, and exercise. I would really like to lose another 20 pounds or so to get back to my college weight of 185 pounds and that was 40+ years ago. Both of us delight each day in our success and the feedback we give each other pales in comparison to what we see in our daily interactions.

First, both of us are wearing clothes we had only hoped to get back into and hadn’t already given to Goodwill. I am down from a waistline of 46″ to 38″, my chest down from 48″ to 42″, my hips from 46 to 41″, thighs 48-46″, and my neck from 17.5″ to 15.5″. I feel better than I have in years and am back to a regular daily exercise routine that I follow religiously: walking 2 miles, bicycle crunches, pushups, planks and other core exercises, and stretching – all of which are so much easier now that I’m not carrying all that weight! Our friends and family have noticed as well and with a daughter yet to walk down the aisle I’m excited about how we look now and how we will look when that time special time comes! To those of you who might be concerned about the safety of this diet, I had my annual physical exam a few weeks ago and my internist was impressed that I had lost so much weight since he sees so many obese adults who fail at dieting and exercise programs and then ultimately resort to surgery or worse, just give up and accept their shortened life span.

I’m happy to report that though I do take antihypertensive and cholesterol medications due to my familial tendency for these problems, my lipids have never been lower and my blood sugar had dropped from the usual ~100 range to 71! As a physician myself I had some concerns about any ill effects from this rather restricted diet and can report that I haven’t had any problems physically and now my lab reports confirm this. I am happy to recommend the Duke Diet for anyone who is serious about losing weight and getting healthy. It is easy to follow, yields rapid results that encourage you to keep on and the diet coaching has been invaluable to me, but would be even more valuable for anyone dieting alone without the great support I have gotten from my wife. We have now « survived » Disney World with the kids, Thanksgiving, and now Christmas holidays where we have hosted lots of family feasts for days on end without gaining even a pound. I won’t lie that I haven’t cheated a bit, especially lately, but doing a couple of PP (pure protein) days takes it right back off, though I don’t recommend doing this too often while « cruising » and I do « confess » these transgressions in my daily report to my Dukan coach Rodrigo. Good luck and congratulations to any of you on Dukan and especially those of you who are just starting this as yet « just another New Year’s resolution » to lose weight. Remember that a diet is a marathon, as in the rest of your life, and not a sprint, so stick with it and you will achieve the goals you set for yourself. Happy New Year from a Dukan believer!

My favorite support Dukan food: Turkey sausage
My Dukan treat: Fat free yogurt smoothies
My favorite form of exercise: Walking – a have to do it every morning or I just don’t start my day right.
The nicest compliment I’ve been paid: Wow, what did you do!
What keeps me going: The support of my loving wife and children
The advice I’d give to other « Dukanians »: Stick with it faithfully and you will be rewarded for your efforts.
